Svante Ingelsson has remained at Sheffield Wednesday beyond the January deadline despite late interest from West Brom
Svante Ingelsson remained a Sheffield Wednesday player beyond the January deadline despite strong interest from numerous clubs in the EFL Championship, including West Brom, who failed in a late move for the Swede.
Sheffield Wednesday's hopes of survival in the Championship this campaign are next to zero, with the January window doing little to help their chances.
Long-serving captain Barry Bannan left the club on a permanent deal to division rivals Millwall, whilst Bailey Cadamarteri joined Wrexham, with the pair having accumulated just shy of 60 league appearances for the Owls this campaign, being among their most important players.
The likes of Joel Ndala, Marvelous Nakamba, Tayo Adaramola, Jerry Yates, Murphy Cooper, and Jaden Heskey have all joined the club on loan this month, though despite their additions, their relegation feels inevitable.
They will, however, gain some boost after keeping hold of Swedish midfielder Svante Ingelsson, who had been courted by numerous clubs across the division during the winter window, including West Brom.

Ingelsson has been an almost ever-present in Wednesday's side this season, and the Owls will be relieved to have fended off interest in the Swede over the course of the window.
Both Millwall and Portsmouth were heavily interested in the midfielder, whilst Darren Witcoop reported via X that Stoke City were also monitoring his situation at Hillsborough.
However, West Brom would also make a late inquiry about Ingelsson, as per Alan Nixon's Patreon, with Eric Ramsay's side looking to add some strength and depth to their midfield after finding themselves in the midst of a relegation scrap.
The Baggies were looking to strike a deal worth around £500k for the Swede, though a move would not materialise, and given how late on in the window it was when contact was made, Wednesday were always going to be more than reluctant to see him depart.
In the end, West Brom would not sign a midfielder, with their only additions during the month being goalkeeper Max O'Leary from Bristol City, wing-back Daniel Imray on loan from Crystal Palace, and attacking-midfielder Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba on loan from Aston Villa.
Ramsay will have to make do with the tools he has been provided at The Hawthorns, but will no doubt have some frustrations, having not secured the signing of Ingelsson or any alternative.
Wednesday, on the other hand, despite their precarious position, will be delighted to have kept the Swede until at least the end of the season, as the Owls look to end their Championship stay on as positive a note as possible.

Indeed, this season will be one that no Wednesday supporter looks back on with any sort of fondness, maybe aside from finally being rid of Thai owner Dejphon Chansiri.
The club going into administration signified the end of Chansiri's abysmal tenure running the club, and although it meant they were slapped with an 18-point deduction in total, to finally be rid of him was a worthy price to pay.
It does mean, barring a miracle, that the club will be playing their football in the third tier once again next season, though hopefully at that point under better ownership.
For now, all they can do is take it game by game and try to earn as many points as possible, whilst putting in performances that fans will respect.
Ingelsson works his socks off in the midfield, and Owls supporters will be glad that they have the Swede available as an option until at least the end of the season.
