Vasco have made Botafogo head coach Franclim Carvalho their top target, with talks under way. According to Globo.com, negotiations are active for the 39-year-old.
His candidacy was put forward last week by director of football Admar Lopes and technical director Felipe, with Lopes enjoying a prior rapport with the coach’s staff.
Carvalho assisted Artur Jorge during Botafogo’s 2024 successes. After sacking Fernando Diniz, Vasco pursued Artur Jorge but a deal did not happen. Carvalho is seen as aligned and has posted a strong points return.
With Botafogo dealing with wage delays since the start of the year and a SAF close to resale to Gabriel de Alba, Lopes saw an opening for a move.
Carvalho’s family already lives in Rio, while other foreign options work abroad and would need at least a week of paperwork before starting.
President Pedrinho approved a swift appointment. Talks progressed, then stalled when he was removed from office on Tuesday after a legal action led by 777 Carioca.
At a SAF meeting, Lopes and CEO Fred Luz briefed court-appointed intervenor Samantha Longo on the plan. She agreed and saw no financial obstacle, with a lower salary than recent coaches.
Carvalho’s agents have given the green light, with improved terms on offer and the prospect of greater investment if a new SAF figure arrives.
Carvalho will meet Botafogo representatives on Friday to discuss his future. Inside Vasco, there is hope for a positive outcome.
