Chelsea have such a long gap between last Sunday’s FA Cup and their next game, against Crystal Palace on Monday, that they let their squad go on holiday.
They’re back in training today, and building up to that next Premier League game. Calum McFarlane’s selection will tell us a lot about where some players stand.
Centre back has been a problem for us all year. Trevoh Chalobah has been the one consistent option, and now he’s recovered from his injury he’s certain to start. The real question is who will partner him in that game.
Wesley Fofana was Chalobah’s partner when fit for a lot of the season, but his form has been dreadful. His inability to play twice in a week made it easy for McFarlane to leave him out on Sunday, as he’d featured on Tuesday.
Tosin played in his place against Leeds and did well. Will he keep his place with Fofana fit? It would be quite the turnaround, considering how out of favour the former Fulham man was.
Meanwhile Benoit Badiashile and Mamadou Sarr are totally out of the picture. It would be a shock to see them come in.
Whoever gets left out of the squad should be feeling very shaky about their future.
There’s a lot of negativity around Chelsea at the moment – understandably so. But one journalist still insists that it will only take one or two good transfer windows to get the Blues back on track.
