The Red Dragons occupy a Championship play-off spot thanks to their dramatic 3-2 win over Queens Park Rangers last Saturday, which witnessed Josh Windass and Oliver Rathbone scoring in the 93rd and 94th minute, respectively.

Phil Parkinson's men, who won promotion from League One last term, seemingly lost momentum when they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Norwich City, and were subsequently held to a 1-1 draw by Leicester City.

However, the late triumph over QPR means that Wrexham now have every chance of beating the likes of Bristol City and Watford to a play-off spot and booking their place in next season's Premier League.

The Red Dragons will likely bolster their promotion bid with a victory over bottom club Sheffield Wednesday this Saturday, as the Owls have failed to win since September.

Perhaps more excitingly for the Welsh club, though, Sky Sports' Anthony Joseph revealed via X on Tuesday that Atletico Madrid's majority shareholders are investing £48million into Wrexham.

The consortium have acquired a minority shareholding of 10% in the Red Dragons, while the money is set to go towards the Racecourse Ground outfit's long-term plans.

Wrexham draw closer to Premier League dream

Wrexham are vying to become the first-ever club to win four consecutive promotions from the National League to the Premier League, which epitomises their unrelenting upward trajectory.

The Red Dragons have seamlessly adjusted to the unique demands of the Championship this term, having plied their trade in League One just last season.

Parkinson's men are yet to boost their promotion chances by completing a signing in the winter transfer window, but the fact they added 13 players to their squad last summer displays the ambition of Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Meanwhile, Wrexham are interested in £19m-rated striker Sidiki Cherif, who has scored four goals in 19 Ligue 1 appearances for Angers this season.

The incoming investment from Atletico's majority shareholders, Apollo Sports Capital, will help the Red Dragons complete exciting deals, such as the potential acquisition of 19-year-old Cherif.

Amid the Welsh side's interest in the Angers striker, Conor Coady is set to join Charlton Athletic on loan from Wrexham, while former captain James McClean has already returned to Derry City.

Such high-profile departures will help Parkinson facilitate the additions that could see his side earn promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.

The Red Dragons conclude January with their aforementioned trip to Wednesday, while they face vital fixtures in February, testing themselves against promotion rivals Millwall and Ipswich Town.
