Yunus Musah has been left out of USA’s squad to face Paraguay tonight, neither in the starting XI nor on the bench. According to Superdeporte, Mauricio Pochettino omitted him from the official list, a decision influenced by his lack of minutes and continuity at AC Milan and Atalanta.
The absence marks a significant setback in his international career. It underlines a loss of prominence over the latest competitive cycle and leaves him needing regular game time to re-enter the manager’s plans.
In 2022 at the Qatar World Cup he was a USA starter. The United States went out in the last 16 to the Netherlands, yet the then Valencia midfielder impressed and looked ahead with optimism to the next home World Cup. He also became the youngest American to start a World Cup knockout tie, aged 20 years and four days.
Musah’s path has contrasted early potential with inconsistency at the top level. Developed in English football and established quickly at Valencia, he prompted Milan to invest in him as a long-term bet. His Serie A evolution has been tougher than expected, mixing high-tempo displays with spells of reduced influence and uncertainty over his ideal role in demanding systems.
At Atalanta his contribution has been modest, a balance of three in 29 matches, split into two goals and one assist. It was insufficient for the World Cup.
