“I would imagine (this is my last game) I think that things are progressing,” the Celtic manager said the day after leading Celtic to an historic win in Rotterdam against Feyenoord. “I was speaking to some of the board members last night. Things are progressing very nicely, so I’m hoping that things will be in place by the beginning of next week.

“I came up here, and it’s been a whirlwind time. I have really, probably, if you asked me deep down, have I loved it? Yeah, I probably have.

“My face doesn’t always say that, but yeah. In terms of messages, the more important things for the fans and the team to worry about are trying to win the game at Easter Road.”

On what Nancy can expect from the squad on his arrival, O’Neill continued, “Hopefully, he’ll find a side that is bubbling with a bit of confidence, which is great, and there’s a restoration of that, I suppose, from previous weeks in that sense.

“But no, he’ll have a fair idea of what he’s coming into, and he doesn’t need any guidance from me.”

Wilfried Nancy of course is likely to be very keen to hear from Martin O’Neill, a legend and a player and manager and a hugely experienced manager who knows exactly what it takes to be a successful Celtic manager. For Nancy that’s gold-dust.
