Will Meunier follow Mustafi’s path at Valencia? | OneFootball

Valencia are weighing a move for Thomas Meunier as a right-back option this summer, a profile admired by Carlos Corberán. According to Superdeporte, the 34-year-old has left Lille after his contract expired and remains a regular for his national team.

He was an important part of the rotation for the side that finished third in Ligue 1. He is in no rush to decide his future, and any resolution is likely after the World Cup.

If he does arrive, he would be Valencia’s first World Cup player signed in a World Cup summer since Mustafi in 2014. The German joined after an excellent season with Sampdoria, then formed a strong pairing with Nicolás Otamendi that helped return Valencia to the Champions League.

Under Meriton, Valencia have rarely recruited World Cup players. They made no such signings in 2018 or 2022.

Earlier precedents exist. In 2010 they picked up Ricardo Costa on a free from Lille after his involvement with Portugal, who were knocked out by Spain. In 2006 they signed Hugo Viana, having had him on loan in the preceding months.
