With 10 days until the Campeonato Brasileiro resumes, Vasco remain without a head coach and sit 17th on 20 points.

They return on the 16th, away to Vitória at Barradão, in the 19th round. According to Globo.com, the search has stalled amid legal turbulence and the removal of Pedrinho from the SAF leadership.

The club parted company with Renato Gaúcho on 18 June but failed to secure a quick replacement despite an internal push to act quickly.

Several foreign candidates were sounded out. Without progress on out-of-work options, attention switched to Botafogo coach Franclim Carvalho, though talks petered out after the court ruling that sidelined Pedrinho.

Focus then moved to Coritiba’s Fernando Seabra, with an agreement reached and a flight to Rio issued. A late impasse over how to pay his release clause to Coritiba saw the deal fall through.

The setback was another blow to a process the hierarchy had believed was close to resolution.

Vasco have returned to the market at speed but face a tight budget until the SAF sale is concluded, and coaches remain wary of the legal uncertainty and Pedrinho’s absence. There was also an approach to Vitória coach Jair Ventura, though talks have not advanced, and the club have sounded out further overseas options.
