With Weverton on World Cup duty with Brazil, goalkeeper Gabriel Grando is expected to return to Grêmio’s starting line-up after about five months in Saturday’s friendly against Cascavel.
According to Globo.com, the 26-year-old has recovered from a fracture to a finger on his right hand suffered in May and has been training normally at CT Luiz Carvalho in recent days.
His last appearance came on 31 January, a 1-1 draw with Juventude at the Arena when Grêmio fielded a reserve side in the opening phase of the Gauchão.
He also started January wins over Avenida and São Luiz in the state championship. After Weverton’s arrival, the academy graduate returned to the bench, a role he has held since 2024, initially behind Marchesín then Tiago Volpi.
Grêmio face Cascavel on Saturday at Olímpico Regional in Paraná at 16:00, their first friendly during the World Cup. Further friendlies are planned against Chapecoense on 5 July and Cruzeiro on 12 July.
The club’s next competitive match is away to Mirassol on Thursday 16 July at 21:30, in the 19th round of the Brasileirão.
