FC Bayern will have to make do without Harry Kane and Nicolas Jackson in Freiburg, leaving Vincent Kompany with a tricky decision to make in attack. The coach has already hinted that several solutions are possible.

One thing is clear: Munich will have to reshuffle their attack at short notice. Harry Kane is out with ankle problems, having already suffered complaints during the international break. The Englishman will be rested, also in view of the upcoming Champions League clash against Real Madrid.

Nicolas Jackson is also suspended, having already served the second game of his ban following his red card against Bayer Leverkusen two weeks ago and is therefore also unavailable. He will be allowed to play again against St. Pauli in a week’s time.

Kompany left it open at the press conference as to how he will line up in attack. „It depends a little on what happens in training today, who shows that they are 100 percent fit for this game,“ explained the Bayern coach.

The Belgian made it clear that several tactical variations are conceivable. „Our interpretation of this role, which two players take on in the ten position, is very, very flexible,“ said Kompany. He did not rule out more unusual approaches: „We can play with two strikers, no problem. We can play with two tens. We can play a 9.5 profile.“ Above all, the presence in the penalty area is crucial, he said.

A final decision has apparently not yet been made. „We’ll see whether we do that – it depends on the information from the last training session,“ emphasised the 39-year-old. One thing is certain: Kompany does not want to take any unnecessary risks and is relying on a well-thought-out solution. „We’re trying to make logical decisions that will help us,“ said the coach.
