Wolfsburg consider sacking front office duo if Bundesliga woes continue

As crisis-stricken VfL Wolfsburg get set to kick off the final Bundesliga matchday before the international break, it looks to be the case that no members of the club’s front office are safe from the sack.

The fact that embattled VfL Wolfsburg head coach Paul Simonis enjoys the backing of club sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz may be of zero relevance. The Bundesliga club’s supervisory board met on Monday evening to discuss the future direction of the German Wolves. Neither Schindzielorz nor Wolfsburg managing director Peter Christiansen are safe from the sack at this point.

Wolfsburg prepare to partake in the 2025/26 German Bundesliga’s matchday 10 curtain-raiser on Friday evening against Werder Bremen. A loss may not only spell the end for Simonis, but also the club’s two top administrators heading into the November international break. Christiansen may be in seriously hot water after back-up keeper Marius Müller showed no fear about discussing a private spat with him last week.

Who may be brought in?

Kicker reports that Germany’s green company team are considering a variety of options.

Former Wolfsburg head coach Bruno Labbadia may be brought in to work the sidelines or assume a front office role. Former Wolfsburg managing director Jörg Schmadtke remains available having completed his stint with Liverpool. There’s also seasoned German footballing administrator Sven Mislintat, available free of charge after Dortmund terminated his contract this past autumn.

In response to an enquiry from Kicker, supervisory board boss Sebastian Rudolph noted that the board had concluded that no one associated with Wolfsburg’s front office is above the board’s critical gaze. Rudolph promised that the club was ready to “take whatever action needed” to halt the club’s persistent underachieving.
