Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes is set to finalise a move to Aston Villa, according to BirminghamLive.
Villa manager Unai Emery is desperate to add players in the position and the 25-year-old Brazilian is joining the Villans in a £35 million deal.
The Midlands club have lost Youri Tielemans to Manchester United, while Amadou Onana will spend several months out of action following an ACL injury at the World Cup.
Villa are looking to sign two midfielders, with SC Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi set to join them after agreeing a deal.
Gomes is set to leave Wolves’ training camp in Portugal and fly into the United Kingdom to complete a move to Villa.
The Wolves star was recently linked with a move to Man United after a deal to join Atletico Madrid fell through.
However, it is the Villans who are set to sign him after talks between them and Wolves progressed quickly.
Gomes has said his goodbyes to his teammates and is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days ahead of joining Villa.
The Brazilian brings plenty of Premier League experience and quality to the table and will be a good signing for Emery’s side going by his performances at Wolves.
Gomes has spent the last three seasons in the Premier League and is an excellent tackler.
He is a workaholic on the pitch, running tirelessly around to win back possession, and Villa could do with such a top midfielder.
