Wolves endured a chaotic 2025, with Fosun heavily criticised as results dipped and relations with supporters soured.
According to Molineux.news, the year initially improved under Vitor Pereira, appointed after Gary O’Neil’s sacking. He tightened the defence and delivered six straight Premier League wins.
Momentum faded late on and 2025/26 has unravelled. Pereira was removed after the 3-0 defeat to Fulham in November, with Rob Edwards taking over.
Mistake one, the summer restructure. In mid-June the sporting director role was scrapped, Matt Hobbs departed and Domenico Teti, previously aligned with Pereira, arrived as director of professional football.
Teti and Pereira took the lead on recruitment while the club’s scouting unit stepped back. Six signings followed, none with Premier League experience, and poor recruitment is widely viewed as central to the slump.
Pereira was sacked in November and Teti left days later. Matt Jackson is now the most senior football executive and must address the squad in January.
Mistake two, handing Pereira a new deal in September. Intended as a reward and a stabilising move, it arrived amid a poor run, preceded only two points and no wins, and ended 45 days later with his dismissal.
It later emerged Pereira had considered quitting before the season due to recruitment issues. The timing and outcome were described as a shambles.
Mistake three, alienating the fanbase. Many accuse Fosun of low ambition and risky transfer strategy, with Wolves now staring at relegation and anti-owner chants heard at every game.
Communication has been scarce and patience has snapped. The recent removal of Jeff Shi as chairman was welcomed, but the damage is widely seen as done.
