Wolves have seen a bid for Spurs striker Will Lankshear rejected, but could yet become the envy of their bitter rivals West Brom
Wolverhampton Wanderers are beginning to ramp up their summer business following their return to the Championship, as the Old Gold are aiming to become the envy of their bitter rivals, West Bromwich Albion, with an incredible transfer swoop.
Wolves are officially a Championship club once again following relegation from the Premier League, finishing rock bottom of the table and going down with a whimper.
However, as the Black Country outfit look to pick themselves up, some key decisions have already been made around Molineux, most notably the decision to replace Welsh boss Rob Edwards with relatively unknown Portuguese head coach Cesar Peixoto.
Prior to Peixoto's arrival, Wolves had confirmed the double addition of Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez on free transfers, whilst the Portuguese head coach has since added Comoros international Rafiki Said to the ranks in a £7.7 million deal from Standard Liege.
Having had interest in Aston Villa forward Lewis Dobbin before Southampton swooped in with a £9 million bid to take him to St Mary's, Peixoto is clearly still interested in strengthening Wolves' attacking options, which has been further reinforced with a move for a Premier League striker, as, if they can complete that deal, could become the subject of transfer envy from bitter rivals West Brom for one key reason.

Having added Jimenez and Said to their attacking ranks already, and with interest in Dobbin being reported, Wolves are clearly prioritising additions in the final third at the beginning of the window.
With a move for Dobbin proving to be unsuccessful, the Old Gold have quickly turned their attentions elsewhere, and namely to Spurs striker Will Lankshear.
According to football.london's Alasdair Gold, Wolves have seen a bid rejected for the English forward, as have Southampton and Portuguese side Sporting CP.
Whilst it hasn't been disclosed what sort of offer has been made, Gold states that 'clubs made approaches about potential offers in the eight-figure package range that involved either a straight permanent transfer for the forward or a loan move with an obligation to buy, and all of them were turned down by Spurs.'
With Jimenez now 35-years-old and Adam Armstrong unlikely to be Wolves' out-and-out striker next year, another option up top, especially with Tolu Arokodare edging closer to the exit door and Sasa Kalajdzic's future uncertain, is a necessity, and Lankshear has been identified as the ideal candidate to fill that role at Molineux.
Having scored 11 and assisted four in 44 Championship games on loan with relegated Oxford United last season, the 21-year-old has shot into prominence, having come on leaps and bounds during his stay at the Kassam Stadium.
Having been a former Arsenal youth academy player, Lankshear joined Sheffield United in February 2021, spending 18 months in the Blades' youth system before Spurs brought him back to North London in the summer of 2022 for around £2 million, where he has since made six first team appearances for the Lilywhites.
With game time few and far between at Spurs during the 2024/25 season, Lankshear headed out on loan to West Bromwich Albion in January 2025, where he would make 11 league appearances for the Baggies, failing to find the back of the net, in a huge learning curve for the striker.
Now, after an excellent spell with Oxford, he has emerged on Wolves' radar, and a return to the Black Country, this time to West Brom's bitter rivals, could well sting those at the Hawthorns.
Lankshear is not the naive player that turned up at the Baggies 18 months ago, having matured and developed phenomenally since then, and could well become a star at Molineux if he is to make the switch.
Although he made little impact during his time with West Brom, it could still sting to see their former loanee thrive elsewhere, especially at their bitter rivals.
It has not yet been reported whether Wolves will return with an improved offer for Lankshear, and in any case, they will face competition from at least Southampton and Sporting CP for his services.
The Englishman is ready to take the next step in his career, and a move to Wolves could be the perfect fit for him at this stage, and with the opportunity to get one over on their rivals, they should be doing everything they can to get this one over the line as soon as possible.

With Said having joined from Standard Liege to become Peixoto's first addition since arriving at the club, the Portuguese head coach will want to continue to stamp his authority on the Wolves squad with more signings.
What sort of budget Wolves are dealing with this summer remains to be seen, though with more sales expected and parachute payments to their advantage, a permanent deal for Lankshear ought not to be ruled out.
Whilst a loan seems a more likely avenue, an option or obligation to purchase the 21-year-old could too play to their benefit, as Lankshear could be a game-changing addition for the Old Gold.
An opportunity to get one over your bitter rivals doesn't arise every day, and Peixoto must do everything he can to get this deal over the line to instantly endear himself to the Wolves faithful.
