Wolves cancel Heerenveen trip, arrange Molineux friendly with Racing Santander | OneFootball

Wolves have cancelled their pre-season trip to Heerenveen, replacing it with a Molineux friendly against Racing Santander on Saturday, August 1, with a 5pm kick-off.

The club said in a statement that unreasonable restrictions imposed by the local authority on travelling fans forced the cancellation. Wolves had not originally scheduled a home friendly this summer.

Fans were required to travel on organised coaches from Amsterdam regardless of where they were staying, with the local authority unwilling to allow overnight stays in the town. Tickets would only be issued to those on the coaches, numbers capped at 650, and there was little flexibility for independent travel. Wolves cited safety and operational concerns after attempts to change the position failed.

The club expressed disappointment for supporters who had planned the trip, thanked SC Heerenveen for their cooperation, and said a strong home test was the right solution before the new Championship season. Supporters with non-refundable bookings are encouraged to contact Fan Services to discuss their circumstances.

Racing Santander were promoted from La Liga 2 in May after lifting the title, and are preparing for life back in the top tier. Ticket details will be announced in due course.

Cesar Peixoto’s squad return to Compton next week, then head to Portugal for a training camp. They visit Maidenhead United on Wednesday, July 22, face Real Sociedad at Walsall’s Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium on Saturday, July 25, and travel to Doncaster on Wednesday, July 29, before a Carabao Cup first round tie at home to Port Vale.
