Wolves defeated at home by Everton | OneFootball

A tough start to the season for Vítor Pereira, after Wolves were defeated at home by Everton.

The visiting team started strong and opened the scoring just six minutes into the game. Vitaliy Mykolenko delivered a cross to the far post, where Jack Grealish headed the ball for Beto to tap in at close range.

The home team had a difficult first half, especially in creating opportunities. Nevertheless, they managed to equalise in the 21st minute, following a slick first-touch play down the right side. Marshall Munetsi sent a cross into the middle of the box, where Hwang Hee-chan was on hand to direct it past Jordan Pickford.

That was the only opportunity for Wolves in the first 45 minutes, who conceded a second around the half-hour mark. A high press recovery allowed Grealish to find Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall on the left of the box. The English midfielder didn't hesitate to play in Beto, who with a feint, left the ball for Iliman Ndiaye to take advantage.

The Everton front four continued to be formidable in the second half. Despite a goal being disallowed right at the start, the third goal did arrive at the 55th minute.

Dewsbury-Hall capitalised on a fine pass from Grealish and fired a powerful shot into the net guarded by José Sá. With the score against them, Vítor Pereira was forced to make more offensive changes and brought on Rodrigo Gomes.

The young Portuguese entered the pitch eager to turn the situation around and managed to reduce the deficit, after capitalising on a lapse from the opposing defensive line. David Wolfe crossed from the left and the former Braga winger burst through to give the fans hope.

In the dying moments of the game, the same player had a chance to equalise, but his shot went wide. Despite the strong final push, Wolverhampton were unable to secure a draw.

Wolves continue without a win and point in the English league as Everton clinched their second win in three league games.
