Midlands clubs face a busy window, with movement mooted at Walsall, Wolves, West Brom and Villa. According to ExpressAndStar.com, Connor Barrett is set for Wigan and Wolves are reshaping their goalkeepers.
Barrett, 24, has reportedly agreed to join League One Wigan. The Walsall full-back has 12 months left on the three-year deal he signed after arriving from non-league AFC Fylde in 2024.
Wolves are expected to overhaul their keeping ranks. Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson, promoted the previous campaign then loaned to Millwall, is set to leave for around £8m, with Wolves linked and Wrexham tipped to bid.
Nasser Djiga, who made six Wolves appearances before a Rangers loan last season, is said to have been told by the Ibrox club they will not pursue a permanent deal. The £10m January 2025 signing from Red Star is under contract until 2030.
At Albion, goalkeeper Max O’Leary has signed a new three-year deal. Southampton midfielder Will Smallbone is leaving and could be one Albion consider, having featured almost 100 times for Saints.
Marcus Rashford’s future remains uncertain after a season on loan at Barcelona, following six months with Villa. Bayern Munich, Newcastle and Spurs are monitoring, Barcelona want a permanent deal, and Villa interest is reportedly still there.
Evann Guessand, a £23.5m Villa signing in 2025, played 14 games before moving to Crystal Palace, where he aided their Conference League push. A clause for a permanent switch has lapsed, and he is said to be weighing his options.
