Four Wolves supporters who travelled to Mexico 86 and never came back reunited in the United States at England’s 4-2 win over Croatia last week.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, Gary Allen and Stuart Bates, both 63 and now in Atlanta and Texas, met at Dallas Stadium.
Allen and his son slipped into a Croatian VIP box, taking advantage of free beer and food and swapping £700 tickets in the Croatia end for $3,000 seats.
They also linked up with Steve Dawson, known as Texas Steve, who took them in 40 years ago, and the trio finally watched England together before celebrating into the small hours.
Back in 1986 the friends, including David Arnold and Garry Hardwicke, then aged 20-23, headed for Monterrey and Acapulco after job losses, dubbing themselves The Disco Firm. They saw every England game before Argentina’s Hand of God exit, settled in the US and Mexico and raised 14 children.
Allen built a sewage and drain equipment business turning over 20 million dollars annually before retiring last year, Bates works in Houston’s car trade and David Arnold became a school head in Monterrey. A friend nicknamed Rabbit Head, a painter who moved from Atlanta to Florida, died two years ago. The group now plan New York for Panama, and Allen believes England could go deep if momentum builds. Their story is told in the documentary Lost Down Mexico Way.
