According to ExpressAndStar.com, Wolves have ruled out bringing back The Liquidator at Molineux, citing concerns over offensive chanting.
The reggae instrumental last sounded at the ground more than two decades ago, when some fans used it to target Albion with expletives. It remains in use at Albion and Chelsea, and has also been played by Yeovil Town and Northampton Town.
Calls for its return have grown in recent years, with appetite increasing since relegation to the Championship was confirmed. The subject was added to this week’s Fan Advisory Board agenda at supporters’ request.
Fans argued the track would help generate atmosphere and reconnect with the club’s past. The club set out fears that abusive chanting would breach ground regulations, its acceptable behaviour policy and wider equality, diversity and inclusion commitments to a safe, welcoming environment.
Meeting minutes recorded that the club now operates under a risk-based safety certificate and detailed operational policies, placing responsibility on staff to anticipate and mitigate behaviour that could trigger regulatory or disciplinary action. Football authorities expect proactive prevention rather than responses after incidents.
Operational hurdles were also noted, including the difficulty of enforcing standards if the club appears to create conditions where those standards are likely to be broken. Potential reputational risks included effects on public image and relationships with partners, broadcasters and sponsors, plus likely complaints from some supporters.
