Wolves have ruled out reintroducing the Liquidator at Molineux, citing concerns about offensive chanting.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, growing calls from supporters, intensified after relegation to the Championship, put the song on this week’s Fan Advisory Board agenda.

The reggae instrumental was last played by Wolves more than two decades ago, when it prompted expletive-laden taunts towards rivals Albion. It continues to be used at Albion and Chelsea, and has featured at Yeovil Town and Northampton Town.

Fans argued a revival would lift the atmosphere and reconnect with the club’s heritage. The club said the risk of abusive chants would clash with ground regulations, its acceptable behaviour policy, equality, diversity and inclusion commitments, and efforts to keep the stadium welcoming for all.

Meeting minutes stated that expectations around supporter conduct, safety and inclusivity have shifted markedly since the track was last used. Wolves now operate under a risk-based safety certificate and detailed operational policies that require the club to anticipate and reduce behaviours likely to trigger regulatory or disciplinary issues.

The minutes added that football authorities expect proactive steps to prevent foreseeable incidents, rather than action after problems arise. Operational difficulties were highlighted, including enforcing standards if the club appears to enable likely breaches, alongside reputational risks affecting public image, partners, broadcasters and sponsors, and the prospect of complaints from some fans.
