Wolves have sent staff to Mexico as they look to complete another free-agent deal by re-signing Raul Jimenez this week.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, club officials are meeting the 35-year-old to finalise a medical and close an agreement while he is with the national team for Thursday’s World Cup opener against South Africa.

Fulham announced today he will depart at the end of his contract and Championship Wolves are set to beat rival interest, including from MLS, to bring him back.

After the 1-1 draw between Wolves and Fulham in last season’s final Molineux match, Jimenez spoke about the possibility of returning. Early talks followed and discussions have since progressed.

Jimenez scored 57 goals and made 23 assists in 166 Wolves games from 2018 to 2023, becoming a fans’ favourite, before a £5.5million move to Fulham.

He spearheaded Nuno Espirito Santo’s side that twice finished seventh, reached a Europa League quarter-final and an FA Cup semi-final. He hit 13 Premier League goals in his first season, initially on loan from Benfica before a club-record £30million transfer, then 17 in his second.

He fractured his skull in a clash of heads with Arsenal’s David Luiz in November 2020, later returning in a headguard. At Fulham he scored 31 goals and provided six assists in 115 appearances.
