Wolverhampton Wanderers are weighing a move for former Sunderland captain Dan Neil as they prepare a summer rebuild following relegation to the Championship.
Football League World reports that Wolves are considering the 24-year-old, who is set to leave Sunderland on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.
An academy graduate at the Stadium of Light, Neil has made 201 appearances and was central to Sunderland’s climb from League One, featuring in both promotion-winning campaigns to the Premier League.
Game time was scarce this season after the top-flight return. He played only three Premier League matches under Régis Le Bris before joining Ipswich Town on loan in January, and has since made 13 appearances in their promotion push.
Neil will depart this summer after a long spell with the club. Wolves, reshaping their midfield for the Championship, are expected to make significant changes, and he is viewed as a cost-effective option with experience at that level. It remains to be seen whether Ipswich pursue a permanent deal.
