Wolves have been linked with Raul Jimenez and Ellis Simms as they look to strengthen their options in attack this summer.
Wolves are set for a very busy summer transfer window as they look to reshape the squad following a dismal Premier League campaign.
Rob Edwards has made no secret of the fact that he wants to ship out a lot of the current group, which will mean a host of new recruits are certain to arrive, with Kieran Trippier having already agreed a move to Molineux.
In truth, Wolves will be looking to address all areas of the pitch, but it’s crucial that they get a new striker in, as Tolu Arokodare has struggled since his move from Genk.
Meanwhile, Jorgen Strand Larsen’s January sale means there is little depth behind Adam Armstrong, although Sasa Kalajdzic will return from a successful loan spell with LASK this summer.
Nevertheless, you would expect at least one number nine to sign for Wanderers before the deadline, and they have already been linked with a few players.
Mexican international Raul Jimenez has confirmed that talks have taken place over rejoining Wolves, in what would be a very popular move among the fan base.
As well as that, the Telegraph has claimed that Coventry’s Ellis Simms is a target, and whilst he is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract with the Sky Blues, any deal could prove difficult following their promotion.
So, when asked by FLW about the link to Simms, and how he compares to Jimenez, Wolves fan pundit Thomas admitted the Coventry man may be the more sensible option due to his age, but Jimenez’s connection with the club means he would ‘love’ to see the 35-year-old sign on a free.
“I would welcome Simms. I’m not sure it’s a viable option, and I think bringing Raul Jimenez back would be easier to do, as I don’t think Coventry are going to want to part ways with Simms.
“But, he’s Championship proven. He showed it last year, and he has shown it for a few years now. I’m just not convinced that Coventry are going to want to sell him right after winning promotion.
“.
“Simms would be better in that sense, and probably for the physicality of the league, but Jimenez can do a job. I think if both were on the table, it would be a 50:50 split for who the fans would want, but personally, going forward, Simms is the obvious choice.
“You get more time with him, you could give him a chance in the Premier League, but nostalgia speaks volumes, and seeing Jimenez back in the Old Gold would be something I’d love to see, of course.
“I’m just not sure Simms would leave Coventry, so we’ll take Jimenez!”
As mentioned, Wolves will be making major changes to their squad in the coming weeks and months, but the signing of a striker could be the most important deal they make.
Scoring goals has been a major problem for Wolves this season, admittedly at a higher level, but there’s only Armstrong who you would back to find the net regularly in the Championship.

Arokodare could be on the move, and Kalajdzic has had terrible luck with injuries over the years. Even though the likes of Mateus Mane and Rodrigo Gomes will chip in, Wolves need a focal point that can score a lot of goals.
On paper, Simms would do a job, but most would agree that the most exciting signing would be Jimenez. He is the best striker that Wolves have had for a very, very long time, and whilst he may not be the same player, he has shown with Fulham he can score goals.
As well as that, his link-up play, intelligence and experience would make Jimenez the ideal attacker for this Wolves setup.
Therefore, it would be a fantastic bit of business if they could get it over the line, but it’s clearly not a guarantee he will join, so Simms is a capable alternative, but that will depend on what Coventry want to do with the ex-Everton man, who will surely be offered a new contract or sold this summer.
