Wolves have made another change in the dugout, turning to Cesar Peixoto as they chase a swift Premier League return after sacking Rob Edwards.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 46-year-old will leave Gil Vicente, having led them to sixth in Portugal’s Primeira Liga last season, to take the Molineux job, with hopes his attacking football will suit the Championship.
Chairman Nathan Shi called the decision extremely difficult after a full post-season review pointed to a new football direction. He stressed the issue was not character or professionalism, but alignment with the club’s style, identity and competitiveness, and argued that sustainable success demands hard choices.
Edwards, appointed in November to replace Vitor Pereira, lasted 211 days before being dismissed on Thursday morning. He was informed by phone after news leaked on Wednesday evening that Peixoto had agreed a deal to replace him.
Edwards departs with his coaching staff, while Rui Pedro Silva’s position remains unclear. The Portuguese coach previously assisted Nuno Espirito Santo and returned to Wolves in December after Edwards arrived.
It is understood some senior staff were unaware of the plan to change manager until the news broke.
