Women’s under-17 side named for South American Championship

Coach Rilany Silva has announced Brazil’s final squad for the South American Women’s U-17 Championship. The team had been training at Granja Comary, in Teresópolis (RJ), since April 6. This preparation phase included 28 players.

The delegation arrived in Paraguay in the early hours of this Wednesday (22), where they will compete in the continental tournament. The Canarinha will still have a few more days of training before making their debut on Saturday (25) against Venezuela.

For the South American Championship, Brazil will take 22 players, as required by the regulations. In the first stage of the competition, the ten teams were divided into two groups (Group A: Paraguay, Colombia, Chile, Argentina and Bolivia; Group B: Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela and Uruguay). The top three teams from each group will advance to the final stage, which will be played as follows: the top two teams from each group will compete in the semifinals.

The winning teams from the semifinals will qualify directly for the tournament final and secure a place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which will also be held later this year. The two teams that lose in the semifinals will face the teams that finished third in each group at the end of the first stage, in qualifying matches for the World Cup.
