Spain’s stuttering start, a limp draw with Cape Verde, has sharpened focus on Luis de la Fuente’s wing options and the doubts over Víctor Muñoz. According to Superdeporte, even if his injury is confirmed, Spain cannot replace him now.
There were chances to win comfortably, but wasteful finishing and an assured display from Vozinha kept the score level. De la Fuente was criticised for using Gavi on the left of midfield, and injuries to several wide men shaped his XI.
Of the four wingers picked, only Yeremy was fully fit, yet he did not feature. Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams came on to lift the attack, but too late to change the outcome.
Muñoz, the fourth wide option, arrived as an Osasuna player and will leave as a Liverpool signing after a 40 million deal. He suffered a late-season injury and a relapse, and signs suggest he may miss Saudi Arabia and possibly Uruguay.
FIFA rules required the 26 to be drawn from a 55-player provisional list, with the final squad filed by 1 June and announced on 2 June. Changes are allowed only up to 24 hours before a team’s first game, or at any time for goalkeepers with serious injury or illness.
