Mexico have sealed Group A after wins over South Africa and South Korea, and will face a third-place side from Groups C, E, F, H or I. South Korea are second and can qualify with a win or draw. South Africa and Czech Republic drew 1-1 and could still go through with final-match victories, with Czech Republic playing Mexico and South Africa facing South Korea.

Canada top Group B after a 6-0 against Qatar, the country’s first World Cup win, but Ismaël Koné will miss the rest with a serious leg injury. Canada and Switzerland have four points and are essentially through. Qatar face Bosnia and Herzegovina next, with the winner likely advancing and a draw likely eliminating both.

Scotland lead Group C after a 1-0 win over Haiti. It is their first World Cup in 28 years and first finals victory since 1990, leaving them well placed to reach the knockouts. Brazil drew 1-1 with Morocco, and either would be close to qualifying with one more win, while Haiti likely need a victory.

The United States opened with a 4-1 win over Paraguay and remain favourites in Group D.
