Armenia hosts Portugal this Saturday in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. On paper, and judging by their current form, the visitors are clear favorites.
The Armenians are going through a tough spell. Two heavy defeats in the Nations League in March and another setback against Kosovo have exposed their defensive weaknesses. The team has changed coaches: Yeghishe Melikyan takes over until December 2026, but time to fix the issues is short.
Portugal, on the other hand, is brimming with confidence. Despite a shaky start in the Nations League, the Portuguese squad showed their character by coming from behind against Denmark, then defeating both Germany and Spain in the Final Four. Cristiano Ronaldo is in stellar form, netting 12 goals in his last 10 matches. The Seleção boasts a strong squad, capable of dominating every area of the pitch.
The stakes are clear: for Armenia, it's about damage control and protecting their net, while Portugal is aiming for a convincing win to kick off their qualification campaign in style.
