The worrying statistic for the Pharaohs in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers
Egypt/@football
Despite topping Group A in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Egypt is causing concern among its fans.
Hossam Hassan’s men failed to reassure their supporters during the two September matches, even though, on paper, their position remains very strong.
Indeed, both Egyptian media and supporters are questioning the team’s lack of efficiency in the attacking phase.
Across the two matches, against Ethiopia (2-0) and Burkina Faso (0-0), the Egyptian side did not score any goals from open play. Both goals came from penalties, converted by Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush.
This is a trend fans hope not to see repeated during the next international break in October, when the Pharaohs will face Djibouti and Guinea-Bissau.
While World Cup qualification seems only a matter of time, Mostafa Mohamed and his teammates must step up to deliver more convincing performances ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
Let’s recall that Egypt will face Angola, South Africa, and Zimbabwe in Group B of the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco 2025.
