According to Superdeporte, Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic’s appointment to the World Cup final has revived scrutiny of a 2020 police raid on a cabin in Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was detained as officers found weapons, cocaine and other narcotics, along with several women engaged in prostitution.

Police identified Vincic among 34 people present. After his detention, he said he was in Bosnia for a business meeting, had no knowledge of what was happening and maintained his innocence.

The investigation concluded without consequences for him. He was released without charge and continued his career, becoming one of the most respected referees on the international circuit.

Since then he has overseen major European fixtures and now faces another significant assignment, the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina on Sunday.

On Friday the officiating team for the match was confirmed and Vincic showed emotion upon being named as referee. He will be assisted by compatriots Tomaz Klancnik and Andraz Kovacic, with Jordanian Adham Makhadmeh as fourth official.
