World Cup latest: Austria snatch crucial last-gasp equaliser | OneFootball

The 2026 World Cup is up and running and our boys are showing their stuff on the biggest stage in football. David Raum and Assan Ouédraogo have both been called up for Germany, midfield duo Nicolas Seiwald and Xaver Schlager are involved for Austria, Antonio Nusa features for Norway and Yan Diomande is out to impress for Côte d'Ivoire.

28th June: Algeria 3-3 Austria

Both teams headed into this final group stage clash knowing that a draw would be enough to book their place in the tournament round of 32. However, they certainly did not go about it in such manner, with each looking to make attacking inroads throughout.

Austria went ahead through former Werder Bremen striker Marko Arnautović, who calmly slotted home to make it 1-0 after 28 minutes. After Algeria levelled the scores shortly before half time, it was ex-Red Bull Marcel Sabitzer who slammed his nation back in front from the edge of the box ahead of the hour-mark. The lead did not last long, however. Riyad Mahrez showed his quality, with the former Manchester City winger netting twice to put Austria on the brink of World Cup elimination.

Nevertheless, there was to be late drama in Kansas City as Austria snatched a place in the knockout stage with a last-gasp equaliser. Saša Kalajdžić headed home a equaliser for 3-3 with the final touch of the game to send his country through. They now face perhaps their toughest challenge of the tournament so far. European champions Spain and former RBL attacker Dani Olmo await in the round of 32.

26th June: Norway 1-4 France

Norway coach Ståle Solbakken fully rotated his side for their final group game, making a total of ten changes. Antonio Nusa was one of the players rested, along with star striker Erling Haaland. France, meanwhile, made it clear that they wanted to win the group, starting the likes of Kylian Mbappé, Michael Olise, Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué.

The 2018 World Cup winners raced into a 2-0 lead by the 20-minute mark thanks to two goals from Dembélé. France were then pegged back a minute after the PSG winger's second, as Thelo Aasgaard got his name on the scoresheet. Dembélé completed his hat-trick before the break to keep France in the ascendancy and they continued their dominance after the interval, adding a fourth late on through Doué. Our youngster Toni came on for Oscar Bobb in the 83rd minute.

France therefore secured first spot in Group I, with Norway finishing second. This means they will face Ivory Coast in the round of 32, pitting Nusa against his RBL teammate Yan Diomande!

25th June: Ecuador 2-1 Germany

David Raum was handed his first start of the tournament, but Germany were beaten 2-1 by Ecuador in their final group game. Our captain's throw-in started the move for Germany's goal in the second minute, scored by Leroy Sané. Ecuador equalised just seven minutes later via Angulo's strike from range. Gonzalo Plata then scored from a corner late on to secure all three points for Ecuador and secure their place in the knockouts.

Despite the defeat, Julian Nagelsmann's team progressed as group winners, though don't yet know their opponents for Monday's (29/6) round-of-32 tie.

25th June: Curaçao 0-2 Ivory Coast

Yan Diomande and Ivory Coast got what they needed against Curaçao to progress to the round of 32. Our winger helped get them off to the perfect start, assisting Nicolas Pépé in the seventh minute to make it 1-0. The Villarreal winger then added a second goal after the break (64') to confirm their place in the knockouts for the first time in their World Cup history after finishing second in Group E.

22nd June: Norway 3-2 Senegal

Antonio Nusa helped Norway make it two wins from two and book their place in the knockout stages with a game to spare. Toni retained his place in the starting XI and played 72 minutes of the 3-2 victory over Senegal. Marcus Pedersen (43’) and Erling Haaland (48’, 58’) scored Norway’s goals.

Ismaila Sarr struck for Senegal in the 53rd minute and again three minutes into added time, meaning Norway must now beat France on Friday evening to finish top of the group. Had the game ended 3-1, a draw would have been enough on goal difference.

22nd June: Argentina 2-0 Austria

Austria lost their second group game 2-0 to defending champions Argentina. After missing a penalty in the ninth minute, Lionel Messi opened the scoring seven minutes before the interval with his 17th World Cup goal - the most of any player in the competition's history. 

Austria fought admirably and tried their hardest to find an equaliser, but conceded a second Messi goal in the fifth minute of injury time. Our Austrian duo, Xaver Schlager and Nicolas Seiwald, both played the full 90 minutes.

Ralf Rangnick's team will now have to wait until their final group game against Algeria to try and book their place in the knockouts.

20th June: Germany 2-1 Côte d'Ivoire

Germany booked their place in the round of 32 with a 2-1 win over Yan Diomande's Côte d'Ivoire. With six points and two wins from two, David and Assan's side are guaranteed to feature in the knockout stage.

Ivory Coast took the lead in the first half following superb play from Yan. The RBL attacker sped to the byline and put a low ball in from the left flank. Amad Diallo's effort was blocked, but Franck Kessié slotted home the follow-up.

Germany, though, hit back in the second half via a Deniz Undav brace. The forward netted his second in the fourth minute of injury time to earn Germany a 2-1 victory. David Raum and Assan Ouédraogo remained unused substitutes in the match.

16th June: Austria 3-1 Jordan

Nicolas Seiwald and Xaver Schlager have also got their World Cup campaign off to a winning start as Austria beat tournament debutants Jordan 3-1. The hard-fought victory was Austria’s first at a World Cup since a 2-1 win over the USA in 1990.

Austria took the lead after 21 minutes through Werder Bremen midfielder Romano Schmid, who found space outside the box and curled a superb effort into the top-right corner. The goal sparked an emotional celebration, with Schmid running straight to the touchline to celebrate with the injured Christoph Baumgartner. “The goal was for him,” Schmid said after the match.

Jordan, however, proved stubborn opponents and created several promising openings of their own. Their positive approach was rewarded shortly after half time when Ali Olwan bent a fine finish into the far corner to level the score at 1-1 (50’).

Ralf Rangnick’s side eventually regained control from a set piece. Challenged by Marko Arnautović, Jordan captain Yazan Al-Arab inadvertently diverted a corner into his own net to restore Austria’s lead (76’). Arnautović then sealed the result deep into stoppage time from the penalty spot, securing a 3-1 opening victory for Austria (90’+12).

16th June: Iraq 1-4 Norway

Antonio Nusa helped Norway begin their first World Cup campaign in 28 years with a convincing 4-1 win over Iraq on Tuesday night.

Toni was involved straight away as Norway took the lead in Foxborough. Our forward drove forward at pace and slipped an excellent ball into the path of David Møller Wolfe, whose cross was turned in by Erling Haaland at the far post (29’). The Manchester City striker struck again shortly before half time after a huge error at the back and later took the Player of the Match award for his brace (43’).

The game was not quite as straightforward as the final scoreline suggests, however. Iraq showed plenty of courage, initially levelled the scores through Aymen Hussein (39’) and had several chances to make it 2-2. After the break, a header from former Hoffenheim defender Leo Østigård (76’) and a late own goal eventually made the result look more comfortable (90’+6).

For Norway and Toni, it was the three points they had targeted in Group I. Tougher challanges against Senegal and France are still to come.

14th June: Côte d'Ivoire 1-0 Ecuador

Yan Diomande and Côte d'Ivoire kicked off their World Cup group-stage campaign with a 1-0 win over Ecuador on Sunday night. The meeting between two of Germany’s group opponents was settled by Manchester United’s Amad Diallo, who struck in the second minute of stoppage time.

Yan initially caused problems down the right wing, where former Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapié struggled to contain him. He switched over to the left as the second half wore on and continued to pose a threat from there. FIFA named him the Player of the Match for his performance.

Next Saturday at 22:00 CEST, Yan and the Ivory Coast take on David Raum and Assan Ouédraogo's Germany side.

14th June: Germany 7-1 Curaçao

Germany began their World Cup campaign in style, claiming a fully deserved 7-1 win over Curaçao in Houston and winning their opening game at the tournament for the first time since 2014.

Felix Nmecha gave Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann’s side an early lead, but the underdogs briefly stunned the favourites with an equaliser. The DFB-Team soon bounced back with goals from Nico Schlotterbeck and Kai Havertz making it 3-1 at half time, before really showing their dominance after the break in particular. Jamal Musiala extended the lead straight after the restart, while Nathaniel Brown added a fifth.

David Raum replaced the Frankfurt man at left-back in the 72nd minute and was on the pitch as Deniz Undav made it 6-1 and Havertz added Germany’s seventh. Assan Ouédraogo is still waiting for his first World Cup appearance.
