Wout Weghorst not in Benfica plans despite Dutch links | OneFootball

Wout Weghorst has again been linked with Benfica, but the club are not considering the striker for next season.

Speculation intensified after reports in the Netherlands. Voetbalzone’s Mounir Boualin said on a podcast he had heard the forward was even seeking accommodation in Portugal.

At 33, and turning 34 at the start of the new campaign, he is not viewed as fitting the profile Benfica want to add.

He remains on Ajax’s books, with his contract due to expire at the end of June. His immediate focus is the World Cup, and he was an unused substitute in the Netherlands’ 2-2 draw with Japan.

This season for Ajax he played 34 times, 29 in the Eredivisie and five in the Champions League. Across 2,193 minutes he recorded nine goals and four assists. He is valued at 2 million euros.
