Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals after defeating Liverpool 4-1 in a penalty shootout (1-1 on aggregate) on Tuesday night at Anfield.
The opening goal came in the 12th minute when Nuno Mendes found Ousmane Dembele in the middle, who quickly laid it off to Bradley Barcola on the right. Barcola attempted to return the ball to Dembele, but Ibrahima Konate’s sliding tackle unintentionally set up Dembele for an easy finish.
Neither side managed to break the deadlock in extra time, forcing the match into a penalty shootout. PSG converted all four attempts against Alisson Becker, while Gianluigi Donnarumma stepped up in goal.
After conceding a penalty to Mohamed Salah, Donnarumma made crucial saves against Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones. The decisive moment came when Desire Doue calmly converted the final shot, sealing PSG’s place in the next round.

Following the match, CBS Sports pundit Thierry Henry reacted to the performance PSG displayed in the second leg against Liverpool and the Frenchman was left repeating the word “wow.”
“Vitinha, the way he controls the game and defends, it’s a different sport. It’s a different sport. Joao Neves, Nuno Mendes, [Willian] Pacho at the back — they were all outstanding. [Achraf] Hakimi, wow. I’m so happy for French football, so happy for Nasser [Al-Khelaifi].
“I don’t know Luis Enrique that well, but look, personally, I meant wow. The way he put that team together — and we all know sometimes talent isn’t enough. You need a team willing to play well on and off the ball. Paris Saint-Germain, wow.”
PSG will now face either Aston Villa or Club Brugge in the quarterfinals. Currently, the English side have a 3-1 aggregate lead heading into the second leg at Villa Park.
