Wrexham left their transfer business late, adding three players in the final 24 hours to bolster a top-six push and finalise a 25-man squad per EFL rules.
A stoppage-time flourish off the pitch mirrored recent late heroics on it, two added-time goals to beat Queens Park Rangers taking their tally from the 90th minute onwards to six. According to NY Times, Zak Vyner arrived for £1.5million on Sunday evening, followed on deadline day by Davis Keillor-Dunn and Bailey Cadamarteri.
Four departed on the day, with Elliot Lee and Ryan Hardie loaned to Doncaster Rovers and Huddersfield Town, and Mo Faal and Harry Ashfield joining Cheltenham Town. Jacob Mendy then made his Peterborough United move permanent shortly before the 7pm cut-off.
Judgement on the window can only come in May. Vyner deepens an already strong centre-back group, Keillor-Dunn arrives in form with 16 goals this season, and Cadamarteri has shown promise, going close for Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
Wing-back is the worry after James McClean left for Derry City. If Issa Kabore or Liberato Cacace suffer prolonged absences, Wrexham could be exposed. Ryan Longman offers versatility, with Ryan Barnett and George Thomason covering, but the drop in quality is notable and no suitable recruit was found.
Outlay of around £5m, on top of £33m last summer, underscores ambition amid limited sales and many loans. Form since Christmas, 19 points from eight games and 43 from 25 since mid-September, suggests a platform, and added depth should help across the final 16 matches.
