Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso expects Éder Militão to play a leading role in his squad over the season ahead.

That’s according to journalist Rubén Martín of Diario AS, who has on Friday provided an insight into the situation.

Defender Militão, of course, is fresh off his return from another long-term spell on the sidelines.

After suffering a torn ACL for the 2nd time in the space of a little over a year, the Brazilian was forced to sit out almost the entirety of Real Madrid’s 2024/25 campaign.

Militão went on to mark his comeback to competitive duties earlier this month, emerging from the bench en route to Los Blancos’ exit from the Club World Cup at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.

And if ensuing word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, then the Real Madrid faithful should expect to see plenty more of the former Porto man over the course of the season ahead.

As per a report from the aforementioned Rubén Martín:

‘Beyond the rumours about the arrival of a new center-back, Xabi Alonso maintains full confidence in Éder Militão and believes he can regain his best form to be key in defense. His strong minutes against PSG were very encouraging.’
