Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has expressed little concern over the form of Jude Bellingham, and preached patience when it comes to Rodrygo Goes. Both have been called into question of late following a poor run of form generally.

Of course, Alonso has been called into question more than any of his players, and before Los Blancos faced Athletic Club, he batted away discussion over his future. Bellingham has returned from injury with mixed results, putting in an excellent showing during El Clasico, but struggling to find a natural role under Alonso.

“He looks good to me, day-to-day, and he’s enthusiastic,” answered Alonso. “He shares everyone’s feeling of not being happy about not winning. But that’s part of the pressure; Jude wants to help us all, and we want to help Jude.”

‘Arda Guler and Jude Bellingham can play together’ – Alonso

The Real Madrid boss was also asked about the apparent lack of cohesion in the middle of the pitch, and whether Arda Guler and Bellingham were the right complements for each other.

“After the Clasico or the Valencia game, those of you with these doubts wouldn’t have asked this. The team as a whole has lost a bit of quality of play, a bit of energy. But we’re all playing together again.”

‘Nobody doubts his quality’ – Alonso on Rodrygo

On Sunday against Girona, Rodrygo set an unwanted record of equalling the longest streak of any Real Madrid without scoring. Alonso was asked how he was helping the Brazilian, with reports that Real Madrid are willing to sell him.

“Trust him and wait. This could change with a goal. He has quality; he’s played in some games and not in others. Nobody doubts his quality, and he has the right attitude. We’re waiting for him. He needs that good feeling after a good game.”

In addition, Gonzalo Garcia Torres, like Endrick Felipe, continues to have a testimonial role off the bench, having impressed at the Club World Cup. Alonso explained his lack of minutes.

“His performance at the World Cup was spectacular. But the thing is, Kylian wasn’t there at the Club World Cup, and now he is. He may not be playing all the minutes he deserves, but he’s very intelligent, knows his role, and is always ready.”

Alonso on Ronald Araujo’s leave of absence

In Barcelona, one of the headlines this week was that defender Ronald Araujo had been granted a leave of absence to improve his mental health. Alonso gave his perspective on the move.

“We have to respect each player’s needs. They are people, and there’s a lot of responsibility involved. If they think that’s what’s best for him, it seems logical to me.”
