FC Barcelona are set to hold their next presidential elections early next year, and for now, it appears that both Joan Laporta and Victor Font will lock horns once again, much as they did in 2021 in more tumultuous circumstances.

Back then, the former triumphed, but his tenure as Barcelona president has been a mixed bag, opening the door for Font. One of Font’s biggest selling points in 2021 was building the project around Xavi Hernández.

The former midfielder eventually became Barcelona’s manager under Laporta and enjoyed a couple of good seasons before things went awry. His successor, Hansi Flick, has built on the foundations he inherited from Xavi.

According to Mundo Deportivo, last night, at Victor Font’s presentation during the launch of Nosaltres’ group, Xavi was present, clearly showing where his loyalties lie ahead of the elections.

It is clear that, despite Laporta giving him a chance as Barcelona manager, Xavi is choosing to back Font for the upcoming vote. It remains to be seen whether the Spaniard will again be the face of the project for the presidential candidate.

Xavi has made a few media appearances since being let go as Barcelona manager. The fact that he appeared last night is telling, and we will have to wait and see who else joins the Victor Font bandwagon to oppose Joan Laporta next year.
