FC Bayern could be represented at the 2026 World Cup like never before, with Julian Nagelsmann on the verge of setting a historic record with his DFB squad

When the national coach announces his final squad for the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico on Thursday, nine Bayern professionals could be nominated from the perspective of the German record champions

This would make FC Bayern the largest group of players ever to be part of the German national team at a World Cup

Bayern could break previous record

The previous record was seven Bayern players, which the record champions provided at the 1974, 2010, 2014 and 2018 World Cups

Now Nagelsmann could well surpass this mark – also thanks to the surprising DFB comeback of Manuel Neuer

According to current reports, the Bayern captain will travel to the World Cup as number 1, provided his calf problems do not result in a more serious injury

In addition to Neuer, Jonas Urbig, Jonathan Tah, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Jamal Musiala, Lennart Karl and Tom Bischof can also hope to be nominated

The possible call-up of Urbig and Karl would be particularly noteworthy

After his strong second half of the season at FC Bayern, the 22-year-old Urbig could surprisingly be included as the fourth goalkeeper. Nagelsmann is said to be thinking internally about nominating four keepers for the tournament

Bischof probably has to tremble

Tom Bischof appears to be in the most difficult starting position. The 20-year-old made his debut for the senior national team last year, but has often only played as a rotation player at FC Bayern

Bischof’s versatility is one of his main advantages, with Vincent Kompany deploying him both in central midfield and at full-back

Whether that will ultimately be enough for a World Cup ticket, however, remains to be seen

With Neuer, Kimmich, Musiala, Pavlovic and Jonathan Tah, several Bayern professionals are not only likely to be nominated, but also included in Nagelsmann’s starting eleven

Neuer’s return in particular makes the potential Bayern record particularly explosive. Two years after his retirement, the 2014 world champion could once again become Germany’s number one at a major tournament

The final decision will be made on Thursday – and FC Bayern may well write another piece of World Cup history in the process.
