FC Barcelona suffer defeat away from home at the Reale Arena as they lose to Real Sociedad. A game where luck simply was not on the side of Hansi Flick’s team, it ended up costing them three crucial points as the La Liga title race gets even tighter.
A 2-1 loss, it saw Marcus Rashford score the only goal of the game for Barça. Unfortunately, the Catalan giants take nothing from this match and it will be a big source of frustration for the team.
Here are the player ratings for Barcelona.
Player Ratings:
Joan Garcia: 7.0
Made some big saves in this game and his distribution was more or less solid. However, he should have done better to collect the ball in the play that led to the opposition’s second goal.
Jules Kounde: 5.0
An underwhelming performance from the Frenchman, who did not make things easy for Barcelona. Yet again, his flank seems to be the easiest to exploit for opponents.
Pau Cubarsi: 4.5
Pathetic defending when it came to Real Sociedad’s second goal, and he was clearly overwhelmed by the opposition for much of the game. The youngster really needs to sort himself out.
Eric Garcia: 7.0
Defended well when needed, and made some key interceptions and blocks. The Spaniard showed heart and rarely ever let the Real Sociedad players get comfortable on the ball.
Alejandro Balde: 5.5
Not exactly effective, but did his job relatively well. However, he was frustrating to watch when Barcelona needed a goal and his hesitation and inability to do much was visible.
Frenkie de Jong: 8.0
Controlled the tempo of the game well enough, and did well to help out Pedri in midfield. Unfortunately, the efforts of both midfielders ended up going to waste for much of the game.
Pedri: 8.5
The Spanish maestro dictated play effectively and efficiently for Barcelona, but very rarely saw his workrate and distribution be rewarded as it should have. He was constantly fouled throughout the game as well.
Lamine Yamal: 9.0
Masterfully played the game for most of the match, and had many key moments. Scored a goal that was ruled out for the most absurd offside call, won a penalty that was also ruled offside, and then provided an assist for Marcus Rashford’s goal as well.
Dani Olmo: 4.0
Frustrating to watch, missed some key opportunities to score as well. Later on, his general play and decision-making began to cost Barça as well.
Fermin Lopez: 6.0
Scored a brilliant goal that was ruled off because of a minor foul in the buildup, but Real Sociedad managed to limit his involvement in the game quite a bit for much of the match.
Ferran Torres: 5.5
Barely involved in the game, the Spanish forward did not threaten the opposition much and they had him nullified quite well.
Substitutes:
Robert Lewandowski: 5.5
Unable to do much, Real Sociedad handled him well. Did have a brilliant header saved by the opposition goalkeeper, however.

Marcus Rashford: 7.0
Scored a good header and that was the only goal that Barça managed to put in the back of the net in this game.
Joao Cancelo: 6.0
A mixed performance, where he had some interesting offensive plays but was overall poor in terms of his defensive duties.
Gerard Martin: N/A
Not enough time or influence on the game to warrant a rating.
