As reported by Sky Germany, Yan Diomandé will officially not travel with the RB Leipzig squad for their pre-season training camp in Austria due to illness, as negotiations continue between the Bundesliga club and Real Madrid over a potential transfer for the Ivory Coast international.
It emerged earlier today that Diomandé had reported in sick, with a final decision on his participation in the training camp expected before the squad departed. However, Sky Germany have now confirmed that the 18-year-old will remain in Leipzig.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, this had always been the preferred outcome for both Diomandé and Real Madrid. The journalist reports that the winger is eager to complete the move to the Spanish giants and is hoping the two clubs can reach an agreement as quickly as possible.
Talks between Real Madrid and RB Leipzig remain ongoing. Los Blancos are pushing to finalise the transfer either today or, at the latest, on Sunday. However, negotiations are understood to have stalled somewhat over the past 24 hours.
Following Leipzig’s 4-0 friendly victory over SC Verl, head coach Martin Demichelis was asked about Diomandé’s absence.
Sky Germany: “Yan Diomandé is ill. You fly to the training camp at 5:00 p.m. Is Diomandé coming with the team? Is that the plan?”
Martin Demichelis: “I know it’s a big topic. Yan is genuinely ill. We’ll see. I haven’t spoken with the doctor yet. If he’s healthy, he has to come with us. If he’s ill, then he’s ill.”
With Diomandé now officially left behind, attention will turn to whether Leipzig and Real Madrid can reach a breakthrough in negotiations over the coming days.
