Sunderland are plotting a measured summer as Regis Le Bris readies a Europa League squad after last weekend’s home win against Chelsea sealed seventh in their first season back in the Premier League.

Foot Sur 7 reports that the Black Cats are competing with Marseille for Charleroi and Algeria midfielder Yassine Titraoui, and that Marseille sporting director Gregory Lorenzi is leading talks. It adds that the 22-year-old favours Sunderland and will be motivated by a more financially attractive proposal, with a fee of £7m to £10.5m suggested.

Titraoui has seven goals and five assists in 74 appearances over the last two seasons, and has five caps for Algeria.

Le Bris regards the window as vital, noting recruitment shapes the season and mistakes can be costly. He accepts judging players in new surroundings is difficult, but believes the club’s structure has improved with more people, better tools and a wider market to scan.

Business appears unlikely to match last summer’s volume, with Sunderland aiming to build on firm foundations. The club will look to strengthen for Europe and see how the market develops.
