Yeremy Pino has avoided a broken collarbone after scans confirmed an acromioclavicular sprain, so he has not been ruled out of the World Cup.

The Spanish federation said radiological tests ruled out a fracture and diagnosed an acromioclavicular sprain.

He suffered the injury after a heavy fall on his left shoulder in the 87th minute against Uruguay. Scans at a hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Spain’s base during the first phase, ruled out the worst case, a broken clavicle that would have ended his tournament.

The sprain affects the ligaments that link the clavicle to the top of the shoulder blade. In his case it is the left shoulder, and he has been wearing a sling since leaving the pitch.

The Crystal Palace player and Villarreal academy graduate will remain with the Spain camp, with any return dependent on his recovery and on how far Spain go at this World Cup.
