It seems that not a week goes by where Manchester City don’t suffer an injury to one of their centre-backs. Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake and John Stones have all spent a lengthy amount of time off the pitch this season. Now it seems that John Stones could be facing a lengthy period out of the game. That has become a common occurrence during the past two seasons for the England international.
John Stones was substituted in the opening 7 minutes of Manchester City’s 3-1 loss to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night. It appears to be a serious injury based on how Stones went down and his reaction to the injury. It’s now a waiting game to see just how long the centre-back will be out for.
Speaking today Pep Guardiola told the media that John Stones had suffered a thigh injury. The City manager added that the world champions are currently waiting to find out the severity of the injury Stones sustained. When asked about Stones’ condition during his pre-game press conference Pep Guardiola said: “He is injured – a difficult one. In the next days, we will know if he needs surgery or not. It’s the front, his thigh.”
The potential of John Stones being sidelined for a lengthy period is very real. John Stones has suffered a host of injuries over the past two seasons and his most recent injury has followed a familiar pattern. It is now getting to a point where the constant injuries are now casting doubt over the Manchester City career of John Stones. That’s the sad reality of the situation surrounding the England international at this stage.
Manuel Akanji is already out for a sustained period of time for Manchester City. John Stones could be joining him if the thigh injury he has sustained is a serious one.
