Manchester United and Real Madrid could be set to compete for the signature of a teenage defender for the second summer in a row, as both clubs are reportedly interested in Dean Huijsen.
The 19-year-old joined Bournemouth last summer, completing a £13 million transfer from Juventus who still have a 10% sell-on fee in case of a future resale. He had also spent the second half of the previous campaign at Roma after receiving a call from Jose Mourinho who personally asked him to join the Italian capital side. Sadly for the Special One, he was sacked from his post shortly after the defender’s arrival.
The Dutch Spaniard started the campaign on a slow note, however, he slowly but surely cemented himself as a regular feature in Andoni Iraola’s starting lineup. Curiously, the teenager scored his first Premier League goal at the expense of Man Utd, when the Cherries won the contest 3-0, much to the dismay of the Old Trafford faithful.
So according to AS (via Calciomercato), the teenager’s exploits caught the eye of the Red Devils who are looking to pursue him in the summer. However, the EPL giants won’t be alone in the race, as Real Madrid will also revive their plans to sign the young player whom they have been pursuing since his early days at Malaga.

Therefore, this could set the stage for another tug-of-war between the two European powerhouses who went head-to-head in the battle for another teenage defender last summer in the shape of Leny Yoro. In the end, the English side prevailed, signing the Frenchman for £52 million.
Nevertheless, Ruben Amorim’s squad remains in dire need of new centre-backs, especially after switching to a three-man backline. The club is set to part ways with Victor Lindelof and Johny Evans, while Lisandro Martinez could miss the start of the season due to his recent ACL injury.
