“You can see the club has new ambition”: Van de Ven hails Spurs after record-breaking Tonali and Fernandes deals | OneFootball

Micky van de Ven has hailed the new ambition of Tottenham Hotspur after the club's transfer business this summer.

The North Londoners have twice broken their transfer record as part of an ambitious summer of recruitment.

Spurssigned Mateus Fernandes from West Ham for an £85m to set a new club record, before surpassing that deal to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United for £92.5m.

Roberto De Zerbi's side also spent £52m on Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke, and have added Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka as a free agents.

The club's bold business has been a reaction to successive seasons of disappointment in thePremier League, following consecutive 17th-place finishes.

Van de Ven said he is excited by the arrivals and has praised the club's board for showing new ambition.

“It’s really good that you can see the club has made some changes,”Van de Ven said on Spurs’ pre-season tour of Australia.

“They have brought a really good new manager, in my opinion, and some really good new signings. You can see the club has new ambition. It’s something that’s really important for players that have been there for a long time.

“Spurs is a team that needs to play Europe every year, so obviously the European spots are something we are going to aim for. The most important thing is we play our football and that we are a difficult team to play against.”
