“You never know” – RB Leipzig director speaks on Xavi Simons future amid Chelsea interest

RB Leipzig director Marcel Schafer has confirmed that Xavi Simons has expressed his ambition to the club amid links of a move to Chelsea.
Simons played for Leipzig on Friday night against Bayern Munich in what could well be his final game for the Bundesliga outfit.
Chelsea have been locked in negotiations for with Leipzig for a number of weeks, and are hoping to get a deal agreed before the end of the transfer window.
Leipzig are thought to want a total package of £60m for the Dutchman, whilst Chelsea are reportedly hopeful of agreeing a deal worth around £50m for Simons.
It’s believed Chelsea are preparing a contract until 2031 for Simons, but as of yet the Blues haven’t submitted an offer for the 22-year-old.

Chelsea are waiting to sell both Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson before moving to try and close a deal for Simons.
Simons has made it clear he only wants to join Chelsea, despite Tottenham making contact recently to see if a deal would be possible.
Bayern Munich also expressed interest in the attacker, and Leipzig director Schafer has spoken on his future.
“Xavi Simons is still with us. But the market is still open, you never know what might happen,” he told Sky Germany as quoted by Fabrizio Romano on X.com.
“Xavi has expressed his ambitions to us.”
Nkunku holds the key for Chelsea being able to move forward with Simons, but as of yet no acceptable offers have come in.

Both Leipzig and Bayern are interested, although they want to do a loan move, but both Chelsea and Nkunku have made it clear they want a permanent transfer.
Chelsea have reportedly set their asking price at £43m, and it will be interesting to see if any interested parties get close to that number.
