Having won the last seven games across all competitions, Aston Villa is riding a big wave of momentum heading into Paris on Wednesday. A lot is often made of what role that plays in sports. Being on a winning streak is obviously a good thing. This aspect translating into more positives for a side in good form is far from a given, however.

Feeling good and playing with confidence naturally helps. At any point, though, things can turn around for the worse, and when it happens, it does so in a hurry. To prevent this, every day within a club needs to be treated at a high level of intensity. The drive to achieve needs to be matched every week along with taking the proper steps to consistently improve.

Nothing can guarantee a side running into poor form, but this intensity and lack of Unai Emery ever being satisfied will always help Villa to stay in contention. The AVFC boss has preached taking each match as it comes. Looking ahead or approaching the season from too far of a bird's-eye view leads to trouble more often than not.

Tielemans offers insight before Aston Villa match

Luckily for Villa supporters, a team often embodies the vision and personality of its manager. Speaking with Villa TV, Youri Tielemans discussed the approach as they prepare for PSG. In something of a telling statement, he appeared very focused on the upcoming first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals:

Yeah, confidence is there, but we know we've got to be on our toes. Every time we are on the pitch, we've got to focus, and every game is different.

That last statement of his is most telling. A team could play the same opponent ten times in a row, and each fixture would be its own entity. Every time a player steps foot on the pitch, the same effort levels are asked of them, and a letdown can be capitalized on.

For Aston Villa, facing a good PSG side that many are expecting to go through, coming out and seizing the game from the hosts on Wednesday will be important. With midfielders like Tielemans and Emery setting the tone from the sidelines, a result in France is certainly more than possible.
