Corinthians visit Botafogo on Sunday at 16:00 at Estádio Nilton Santos in the 16th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. According to Meu Timao, the occasion also offers Yuri Alberto a chance to sustain his renewed scoring touch.
The No 9 struck the winner against Barra, of Santa Catarina, on Thursday in the second leg of the fifth phase of the Copa do Brasil at Neo Química Arena, ending a run of nine matches without a goal for the club.
He now seeks to score in consecutive games for the first time since late January, when he netted in a 1-1 draw with Santos then decided a 1-0 victory over Velo Clube, both in the first phase of the Campeonato Paulista.
Since then, he has scored three more times, twice against Flamengo, in the Supercopa do Brasil and the Brasileirão, and once on his Libertadores debut against Platense, but never in back-to-back outings.
Before that January run, his previous sequence of two in two came between September and October last season, scoring in a 2-1 defeat to Flamengo then in a 3-0 win over Mirassol, both in the league.
Approaching four years at Corinthians, he may be at a decisive juncture. After securing progress in the Copa do Brasil, he said he wants to move to European football as early as mid-year, so the next fixtures could be his last for the club.
Corinthians are 15th in the table and aiming to pull away from the lower places. Coach Fernando Diniz again looks to the No 9 to deliver points away from home.
