Yuri and Memphis shine as Corinthians win Copa do Brasil over Vasco

Late this Saturday afternoon (21), Corinthians visited Vasco da Gama at the Maracanã Stadium for the second leg of the Copa do Brasil final and won 2-1. The goals for the Alvinegro were scored by Yuri Alberto and Memphis Depay. With this result, the club from Parque São Jorge is crowned four-time champion of the Copa do Brasil! (1995, 2002, 2009, and 2025).

For the decision, coach Dorival Júnior had only one absence: midfielder Charles, removed from the bench due to pain, as reported by Central do Timão last Saturday (20). Thus, Corinthians was lined up to start the match with: Hugo Souza; Matheuzinho, André Ramalho, Gustavo Henrique, and Matheus Bidu (Fabrizio Angileri); Raniele (André Carrillo), José Martínez, Maycon (André), and Breno Bidon (Rodrigo Garro); Memphis Depay and Yuri Alberto (João Pedro Tchoca).

The bench options included: Felipe Longo, João Pedro Tchoca, Cacá, Fabrizio Angileri, Ryan, André, André Carillo, Dieguinho, Vitinho, Gui Negão, and Ángel Romero.

Vasco's Lineup

Coach Fernando Diniz chose to start the match with: Léo Jardim; Paulo Henrique, Cuesta, Robert Renan, Puma Rodríguez; Cauan Barros, Thiago Mendes, Coutinho; Nuno Moreira, Andrés Gómez, and Rayan.

Refereeing

The referee was Wilton Pereira Sampaio, assisted by Bruno Boschilla and Victor Imazu. The fourth official and VAR were, respectively, Paulo Zanovelli and Marco Fazekas.

First Half

The first minutes of the match between Vasco da Gama and Corinthians saw a balance in ball possession between the teams. The Alvinegro started the match with a three-man defensive line, with Raniele, a midfielder, helping in the ball distribution with the defenders.

With three minutes into the match, the game was tight, with constant changes in ball possession. Midfielder Coutinho crossed from right to left, and Matheuzinho cleared the danger out of the area. With 10 minutes into the match, neither team had created clear goal-scoring opportunities, with defenses prevailing over attacks, and a lack of progressive passes.

At 12 minutes, defender Gustavo Henrique launched Matheuzinho on the right wing. The number 2 crossed into the area, and Cuesta cleared. Two minutes later, Matheuzinho was launched again on the right and set up forward Yuri Alberto, who received the ball at the edge of the area and shot into the side netting.

At 16 minutes, midfielder Raniele fouled Rayan in the midfield. From the free-kick, Coutinho found Vasco's number 77, who headed wide. Three minutes later, the first goal for Corinthians! Matheuzinho received on the right and set up Yuri Alberto, who faced Léo Jardim and smashed the ball into Vasco's net! Score: Vasco 0 x 1 Corinthians!

At 22 minutes, Rayan received in the midfield and set up Puma Rodríguez on the left, José Martínez, crucially, cleared the danger! Three minutes later, Yuri Alberto received a pass and was again one-on-one with Léo Jardim but shot over!

With 27 minutes into the first half, Memphis Depay set up Yuri Alberto on the left. The number 9 crossed low, and midfielder Thiago Mendes cleared. At 30, Philippe Coutinho took a corner from the left, and Thiago Mendes headed into goalkeeper Hugo Souza's hands.

At 32 minutes, after a play constructed on the right with Paulo Henrique, Andrés Gomes received in the midfield and shot with a deflection, until Matheuzinho cleared for a corner. Three minutes later, forward Rayan went past Gustavo Henrique, reached the byline, but no one was there to finish, and José Martínez cleared.

At 40 minutes, Vasco equalized. Andrés Gomez received from Philippe Coutinho and crossed to Nuno Moreira at the far post to level the match. Score: Vasco 1 x 1 Corinthians. At the moment of the equalizer, the Alvinegro was controlling the match, and the Carioca team had not yet posed a real threat to the Corinthians goal.

When the clock hit 45 minutes, the referee added three minutes. After the equalizer, Vasco began to attack more incisively, but Corinthians' defense prevailed in the duels.

In the first half, Corinthians controlled the match for most of the time, but due to a defensive error, they conceded the equalizer late in the first half.

Second Half

At the start of the second half, coach Dorival Júnior made no changes. Within seconds, Andrés Gomez received on the left wing, went past Matheuzinho, and set up Coutinho. The number 10 crossed, and André Ramalho cleared.

Within a minute and a half, Memphis Depay was fouled in the midfield. From the free-kick, Maycon launched towards Raniele, who played it to Gustavo Henrique in the middle of the area, heading over. At five minutes, Gomez was set up on the left wing and crossed to the right, but Matheus Bidu cleared.

At six minutes into the second half, Vasco was showing superiority in the match and pushed the Alvinegro into their defensive half. Two minutes later, Hugo Souza played a poor pass, and Nuno Moreira failed to capitalize, Maycon cleared. Then, Robert Renana made an individual play and shot from distance, for Hugo Souza to save comfortably.

At 14 minutes, Yuri Alberto was booked after a scuffle with Thiago Mendes. With half of the second half gone, the Alvinegro had few goal-scoring chances. But in the next play, Breno Bidon stole the ball, set up Matheuzinho on the right, and Yuri went to the byline. The number 9 passed to Memphis Depay, who turned the game around! It's the second goal for Timão! Score: Vasco 1 x 2 Corinthians!

After turning the game around, Corinthians improved and began to frequent the offensive half more and balance the match. At 22 minutes, the first substitution for the Alvinegro: midfielder Raniele left the field for André Carrillo. Four minutes later, Rayan made an individual play in the midfield, cleared the defense, and shot wide.

A minute later, Rayan's shot was blocked, the ball fell to Puma Rodríguez, whose shot was crucially blocked by Matheuzinho! At 32 minutes, two more changes for Corinthians: Breno Bidon and Maycon were replaced by Rodrigo Garro and André, respectively.

At 36 minutes, Carrillo committed a foul on the left wing. From the free-kick, the ball didn't get past the wall. A minute later, the last two changes for Corinthians: defender João Pedro Tchoca and left-back Fabrizio Angileri came on for Yuri Alberto and Matheus Bidu.

With 40 minutes into the game, Corinthians controlled Vasco's actions, which were not as threatening to the Corinthians goal as at the start of the second half. When the clock hit 45 minutes, the referee added seven minutes. In the first minute of added time, Rayan made an individual play and was brought down at the edge of the area by Rodrigo Garro.

From the free-kick, Matheus França struck, and Hugo Souza made a great save! Then, Matheus França crossed tightly into the area, and the ball went straight out! The referee added another minute. At 50 minutes, Vasco launched an attack on Corinthians with a barrage, the ball fell to GB inside the area, who shot over!

At 53 minutes, the game ended! Coringão is the champion of the Copa do Brasil!
