Moroccan midfielder Zakaria Labyad has spoken for the first time since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament and suffering a meniscus injury in his left knee, ruling him out for the rest of Corinthians’ season.

The player said in a post that recent days had been very difficult, his season was over but his journey would continue, and he would work hard to return stronger and better, thanking team-mates, staff and especially the fans.

He twisted the knee late in the first half against Athletico-PR last Thursday, a 0-0 draw in the 21st round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. In the same game, Yuri Alberto sustained a right hamstring injury and Rodrigo Garro suffered a right foot trauma, though Garro returned on Sunday against Internacional in the Copa do Brasil.

The injuries prompted criticism of the Neo Química Arena pitch from coach Fernando Diniz and players Raniele and André Ramalho. World Sports, which maintains the surface, set a four-week timeline for the field to be in ideal condition.

With Labyad sidelined, Corinthians’ medical list has grown. Others out are Yuri Alberto with a right hamstring issue, Vitinho after left knee meniscus surgery, Kayke after left ACL surgery, Alex Santana with a knee trauma, and Hugo Farias in transition after a right lateral meniscus injury.
